There are moments in life when words matter more than anything else —

when hearing a voice, a thought, or a reminder of love can make all the difference.

That’s where The Perfect Gift began.

It started as a simple idea — a way to help people show up for the ones they love, even when they can’t be there. But for me, it was much more personal.

A few months ago, my daughter Sofía had her first skating lesson.

She fell again and again, until finally she said, “I never want to skate again.”

That week, before bed, we started reading Love Monster Learns to Surf — a story about a little monster who keeps trying even when he’s scared.

We read it every night for a week. When her next lesson came, she said she’d try again.

But when she stepped on the ice, her fear came rushing back. She didn’t skate that day either.

So, we went home and read the book again — every night, for another week.

By the third lesson, something changed. She stood up, pushed forward, and started skating — one step, then another, and suddenly, she was skating.

Her smile said it all — pride, joy, disbelief. Tears filled my eyes as I watched her.

That day, Sofía didn’t just learn to skate. She learned tenacity, courage, and the quiet strength that comes from trying again.

And I learned something too.

I realized that one day, when she faces bigger challenges — the kind I can’t always protect her from — I’d want her to remember this moment.

To hear my voice, see our pictures, and feel her own strength reflected back at her.

To remember that she’s overcome before — and she can do it again.

That was the moment The Perfect Gift truly began to take shape.

Not long after, someone in my close family faced a serious illness. It reminded me how fragile time can be, and how easily the words we mean to say can go unsaid.

It deepened my belief that love shouldn’t be limited by time or distance.
